Black Friday deal: You save 15%, we donate 5 meals!

With the world gradually becoming more and more climate-conscious, Black Friday has been getting a bit of a bad rep over the years. Think of what all this excess buying and those package deliveries entail for the environment! That’s why, in 2019, we decided to take Black Friday as an opportunity to do something good for the planet. For every order placed during Black Friday/Cyber Monday, we planted a tree. With your help, we successfully managed to plant 1522 trees! That’s a small Jimmy Joy forest.

Throughout 2020, we continued to take big steps towards making our company more sustainable. We went from 5 to 10 meals per bag for the Plenny Shake (which means 39% less material waste), introduced stackable scoops (from 350 scoops per box to 1680 scoops per box resulting in boxes being shipped from the factory to us) and started using Ahiflower in the Plenny Shake Active (one acre’s worth of Ahiflower yields as much omega rich oil as 40,000 mackerel or sardines.) And as usual, we offer CO2-neutral delivery. However, this year we decided to support a different cause - one that is closer to home.

Think global, act local. We will donate the value of 5 meals for every order during BFCM

As we all know, 2020 took a rather unexpected turn with the outbreak of Covid-19. Many have lost their jobs, are struggling to make ends meet, or are hardly able to provide themselves or their family with a basic need like food.

In the spirit of ‘think global, act local’ we decided that for every order placed during BFCM, we will donate the value of 5 meals to the Food Bank.

What does the Food Bank do?

In the Netherlands alone, one million people live below the poverty line. At the same time, we waste 1,3 billion tons of food per year globally. In theory, nobody should have to experience hunger if we use our food surpluses wisely. That’s favorable for both the planet and us humans. In 2019, the Food Bank was able to provide 151.000 people with regular food packages to support their needs, and saved 74.000.000 euros worth of food from food waste. And after all, what’s more beautiful than fighting hunger and food waste together? 

Will there still be a discount?

You could argue that it’s better not to lean into Black Friday at all. But we actually want to show that it IS possible for brands to offer a great deal on quality products, use sustainable plant-based ingredients, maintain an ethical supply chain and still do well as a business.
